Understanding Sacrifice: Researching Mainers Who Served in War
with Shane Gower
Over the past 6 years students at Maranacook working with teacher Shane Gower have researched the stories of 8 Mainers killed in War (2 in WW1 and 6 in WW2) and have published mini-biographies of each soldier on the Award winning website: nhdsilentheroes.org. Shane has been to 8 American Cemeteries in Europe and visited various WW1 and WW2 Battlefields and historic sites from Italy to France and Belgium thanks to funding from National History Day, The World War One Centennial Commission, and the American Battle Monuments Commission.
