Cooking with Essential Oils-NEW!

Come join us in hands-on class and take home some simple and delicious treats made with essential oils. You will learn how to determine what oils are safe to take internally and how to use them. You will have the opportunity to sample and take home a variety of treats including a vegetable/chip dip, cheese spread, and a sweet treat as well as the recipes so that you can make them at home.

Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine Workshops NEW!

David Greenham, associate director of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine will present two HHRC programs: Decision Making in Times of Injustice and The Message Matters. Both programs use the story and history of the events leading up to the Nazi Holocaust to examine and consider the role of those who watched. This two evening program will also help participants to recognize and consider their role in the current divisiveness in America.

2 Wednesdays, 6:30-8 pm

Registration: $15 (Proceeds from these workshops help support the Holocaust Center)

Handling Aggession

Handling Aggression will address the 3 stages of conflict and conflict management. The situations presented are geared for real life engagements. Focus will be placed on strategies that deal with verbal disagreements as well as those situations that can escalate, and get physical. We will begin by focusing on verbal intimidation and how you can respond to someone who is trying to intimidate you or make you feel uncomfortable. We then cover scenarios that go beyond words, where “reasonable force” is needed in order to regain control of the situation. De-escalation strategies, avoidance techniques, & physical restraining exercises and controlling tactics. For adults 18 and over. No experience necessary.

Intermediate Water Colors This class is not for beginners! Students should have taken Murray’s beginner’s class. Students will be given handout material or may work on their own photographs. Each class will include a demo of new techniques a gentle critique of work, discussions about color, composition and design elements. Students are responsible for their own materials.

Introduction to Chair Caning

This class is intended to introduce students to materials, tools, and techniques for restoring and re-caning old chairs and broken seats. All participants will come away with the basic knowledge to pursue more skilled caning on your own. Please bring to class: bucket, 10 clothespins, 10 golf tees, an awl, spray bottle, craft scissors, and a sponge. Caning reed may be purchased from instructor (approximately $25.) Note: This is not a weaving class; the chair you want to restore must have holes.

The popular Jelly Roll Rug is now available in a class! One jelly roll or scraps from your stash, plus batting makes a 30” X 44” machine washable, soft rug. Sewing machine required that will sew a straight and zigzag stitch. Easy, quick sewing. To see samples, look online or UTUBE for Jelly Roll Rugs. $10 pattern fee included in your registration. Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause memory, thinking and behavior problems that interfere with daily living. The Alzheimer’s Association® developed the new 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s education program to help people recognize common signs of the disease and know what to watch for in themselves and others.

This program:

- Explores typical age-related changes.                                                  - Describes common signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia.                          - Offers tips for how to approach someone about memory concerns.         - Explains the importance of early detection and benefits of diagnosis.      - Details possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process.          - Identifies helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources.
