Brazilian Portuguese & Culture: Part Two - New!

The influence of Brazilian indigenous people and immigrants from Angola, Mozambique, Italy, Germany, and Japan made Brazil a diverse and rich country. You will continue the experience of learning more about Brazilian Portuguese language and an authentic Brazilian dish (fish stew with coconut milk) will be served after learning about its origin. If you want to plan a visit to Brazil there is possibility of traveling to this beautiful country in July 2018.

Instructor Bio: Born in Brazil, Mrs. Barley graduated from Universidade de Uberaba (UNIUBE) and earned her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. After her arrival in Maine in 1998, she started teaching Portuguese at UMO and SMCC. In 2012 she became a certified Spanish teacher, and is currently teaching Spanish at Maranacook Middle School.

Individual Guitar and Mandolin Lessons:
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
Learn to flatpick, crosspick, fingerpick, play rhythm and lead in the style of traditional acoustic music. (Bluegrass, Old Time, Celtic and Folk) Learn fiddle tunes, advanced variations, and improvisation techniques on either instrument. Don’t play this type of music? Come and improve your ability on the fretboard no matter what style you play. Teaching is done through one-on-one instruction, listening and playing by ear, tablature and recordings.

Songs inspire hope, unite people, express feelings, create moods and challenge thinking. If you have ideas or stories you’d like to share, you'll enjoy this safe and fun opportunity to write your own songs. We'll review basic songwriting structure, learn about lyric development, explore creative writing and learn to hear and offer supportive feedback. Beginners and experienced songwriters can all benefit. The ability to read music, sing beautifully or play instruments is helpful but not required.
