Ukulele for Beginners - Begins May 3rd

Ukulele time is now! Learn to play the ukulele! It's never been more popular. Join our no-stress four week beginner's program. No need to read music, Duncan Perry, our popular instructor, will ease you into the fundamentals of playing the uke using agraduated system teaching chords, rhythm and strumming, and some fingerpicking. And by the time the program is over, you will have a “toolbox” brimming with foundational skills and knowledge. Beginner classes will repeat every month so you can choose the class that suits your schedule best. Following registration you will receive the link to the Zoom session you have chosen to attend.

If you don’t own a ukulele, please contact your instructor (uketime24@gmail.com) for guidance about buying one.

Duncan is an experienced multi-instrumentalist who has been performing and teaching folks how play the ukulele for the last 13 years. Having served as a volunteer music therapist in medical and hospice settings, he quickly came to understand that music is medicine and that learning to play an instrument not only sharpens the brain but helps reduce stress. It also brings joy to the ukulele player and to her or his audience. Duncan has taught in a variety of Maine communities and has not let the COVID-19 epidemic stop him. He simply moved from teaching in person to an online format.

Acadian Arts May Retreat at Grey Havens Inn - Watercolor Painting

 

Escape to a grand Victorian inn on the coast of Maine with an intimate group of artists and cooks. You'll get to choose one of three hands-on workshops plus an opportunity to experience one or more of the other offerings during our four days together.

 

 

All meals and workshop materials are included.

Here are the three workshops

 

Watercolor Painting is an exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. Instructor Mary Laury has been recognized for her work by the Maine Arts Commission. Workshop participants will do landscapes and seascapes in this 4 session course. If you have never painted in watercolors we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you will pick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together!

 

We'll begin with a demo and lesson. Weather permitting we will go outside for plein air painting. This Inn has a breathtaking view, visible from the lawn, porch, and parlor. Later in the week we'll finish up with show and tell. We will do studies of sky, water, and rocks, culminating in a finished painting (or two) of a seascape. Materials will be provided, but bring what you have. In our time together, we will explore our true creative nature by opening to your intuition, your storehouse of knowing to express your talent. In the evening Kat will share a circle time of music, inviting you to come and sing, share a tune on your instrument, share a favorite poem or short story or request a favorite song. On the final evening of our time together, Kat will offer a house concert for the group of her original music and favorite tunes.

Cooking instructor and author of 6 cookbooks, Chris Toy has been teaching Asian themed and fusion recipes privately, for community education statewide, Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School in York, La Roux Kitchen in Portland, and Now You're Cooking in Bath.  Together you'll prepare great tasting lunches and hearty dinners for yourselves and fellow artists. Instruction will include selection and care of tools, (knives, woks, cast iron) history of recipes (back stories) , finding, choosing and preparing ingredients (shopping tips) , and techniques for getting great results in record time (tips and tricks).
