Advanced Dog Obedience - New Start Date!

This class will continue the training begun in the Basic class, therefore dogs and handlers should have completed at least one Basic class prior to registering. The class will be tailored to the individual needs and temperaments of different breeds as well as to various levels of experience of the handlers and what each dog’s “job” is, whether he/she is a family pet or a dog that will be used as a comfort or therapy dog, or a working farm dog. This is not a puppy class. Please bring proof of current immunizations to the first class.

Basic Dog Obedience

This is a basic training class for dogs of all ages and breeds. Dogs six months and older will retain more of the training; however puppies under six months (but over twelve weeks) are welcome. Owners and dogs will learn basic commands such as “come”, “heel”, “sit”, “down”, “stand”, “stay”, “off”, “no”, “leave it”, etc. The class will be tailored to the individual needs and temperaments of different breeds as well as to various levels of experience of the handlers. Please bring proof of current immunizations to the first class. 6-foot leash & nylon slip collars are recommended. Collars are available from the instructor for $5. Please e-mail her at least a week before class starts with the size (in inches) of your dog’s neck at: No metal choke collars or prong-type (pinch) collars will be allowed.

Boys & Girls Soccer Camp - Grades 3-8

Boys & Girls Soccer Camp - Grades 3 thru 8

July 10 thru 14, 2017     9am - 11:30am

Previous soccer experience is not required. For players with experience, advanced training on tactics and game situations will be provided. Each camper should have their own soccer ball, soccer cleats, sneakers, shin guards (required), water bottle, snacks and sunscreen. It is also strongly suggested that campers bring extra socks.

Boys Black Bear Basketball Camp Grades 4-8

June 26-29, 2017

8:30 AM – 11:30 AM  

Campers learn the fundamental of defense including stance and positioning and develop individual offensive skills.  Daily activities include individual help stations, lectures, games, and competitions.  Each camper should bring a snack and labeled water bottle.  Dress in athletic shorts, t-shirt or tank, and socks as well as basketball sneakers.  

Instructors: Coach Rob Schmidt, various assistant coaches, and current Maranacook players. 

Coach Schmidt has been the boy’s varsity basketball coach at Maranacook HS for 16 years leading teams to three KVAC and two state championships.

Lakers Track Club (Ages 5-15, entering grades 9 and lower)

Track is a wonderful opportunity to meet a lot of new people, get physically fit, and build character, all while having a ton of fun. Returning for its sixth year to the Maranacook community is the Lakers Track Club at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield.

Coaching Staff: The team is coached and led by Maranacook Community High School coaches Mark Dennett & Ronn Gifford, assisted by many current and former Maranacook track athletes. 

What to Bring:  All that is required for practice is a pair of running shoes, athletic clothing, and a water bottle.

Where: Maranacook Community High School Track & Field Complex, Readfield, Maine

About the practices: Practices are Monday and Tuesday evenings 5:006:30p.m. at Maranacook.  Practices are designed to help get the athletes active while teaching event techniques.  The two practices are broken down so that one focuses on running events and technical skills while the other on field events.

About the meets: There are 5 regular season developmental meets (June 29th – July 27th). At each Track & Field Meet the events are divided in half between boys and girls to expose the athletes to more events. The events at each meet switch each week. The 6th meet is the Qualifying meet (August 3rd) where the top 4 finishers at the meet qualify to compete at the State Championships on Saturday, August 12th, 2017. State Championship: Saturday, August 12th, 2017 in Augusta, Maine. Over 1,000 youth athletes compete for the state championship


When: June 26th, 2017 – August 12th, 2017

Practices: Mondays & Tuesdays 5:00pm-6:30pm

Track Meets: Held around Augusta area each at Thursday 10:00 am  (June 29th, 2017 through August 3rd, 2017).  

State Championships held Saturday, August 12th, 2017.

Cost:   $55 registration fee (includes a t-shirt and USATF registration in fees).  

 $2 meet entry fee per meet (regular season meets)

 $3 meet entry fee per meet (qualifying & State Championship meets)

Little Kickers Soccer Camp - Girls & Boys Ages 5 - 8

Campers experience the principle of one ball to one person and how it is used to develop ball control skills. Children will develop balance, coordination and gross motor development in cooperative play through a variety of drill, activities and game situations. Previous soccer experience is not necessary. Please bring a labeled soccer ball and water bottle. Shin guards and soccer shoes (or sneakers) are a must, as are shorts or sweats and sunscreen. 

Instructor: Ryan Martin, MCHS graduate (3 sport player), has coached Little Kickers for 11 years.

Readfield History - New Date!

Readfield History Our presenter and local historian, Dale Potter-Clark, is a founding member and consultant for the Readfield Historical Society and co-leader of the Readfield history walks. Dale’s family has lived in Readfield for over 10 generations. All of her presentations will be held at Maranacook Community High School,and proceeds will be applied to Readfield’s “Museum in the Streets ®”, historical site markers’ fund.
