Archery Safety Course - NEW!

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Archery Education Safely Course is a comprehensive outdoor training program teaching students a wealth of knowledge regarding equipment, proper hunting methods, responsibilities, and general safety. This class is also a required class for individuals wanting to legally hunt in the state of Maine with archery equipment. Students MUST attend the entirety of each class, activity participate in class discussions, complete homework and pass the final exam to receive their certificate.

Instructor: Craig Gerry

Dates: Tuesday, March 13, 2018 (5:45-9 pm) and Saturday, March 24, 2018 (8:30 am-4:30 pm)

Location: PDC (Professional Development Center) 75 North Road, Readfield

Registration: $10

Students attending safety classes must be a minimum of 10 years old and students under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Students under 18 years of age must have an adult register them in person at the first class.

Participation in an All Terrain Vehicle education course will teach students how to properly operate and maintain an ATV. Laws, responsibilities and personal safety will also covered.

Basics of Outdoor Cooking

Nothing tastes quite as good as a meal cooked over the flames of an open fire. Topics will include how to make guide coffee (with an egg!), reflector oven dinner rolls, dutch oven baked beans and a surprise dessert sure to please!

Beginner Fly Fishing

Have you always wanted to flyfish but were never able to find the time to learn? Well, now is you chance to learn al of the basics of flyfishing in this compressed introductory class. Topics will include everything you'll need to know to get out on your favorite stream and actually CATCH FISH! Please bring a flyrod, reel and flyline.

Boys and Girls Soccer Camp Grades 3-8

Calendar Jul 9, 2018 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

For players with experience, advanced training on tactics and game situations will be provided. Each camper should have their own soccer ball, soccer cleats, sneakers, shin guards (required), labeled water bottle, snacks, and sunscreen. It is also strongly suggested that campers bring extra socks. Previous soccer experience is required.

Boys’ Black Bear Basketball Camp Grades 4-8

Calendar Jun 25, 2018 at 8 am, runs for 1 week

Campers learn the fundamental of defense including stance and positioning and develop individual offensive skills. Daily activities include individual help stations, lectures, games, and competitions. Each camper should bring a snack and labeled water bottle. Dress in athletic shorts, t-shirt or tank, and socks as well as basketball sneakers.

Coach Schmidt has been the boys’ varsity basketball coach at Maranacook HS for 16 years, leading teams to three KVAC and two state championships.

Instructors: Coach Rob Schmidt, various assistant coaches, and current MCHS players.

Dates: June 25-28, 2018

Time: 8 am - 12 pm

Drones - January Session

Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are all of the rage right now, with young and old alike joining and enjoying this fun and entertaining hobby. In this class, we will discuss the basics of how to go about picking out your first beginner drone, the basics of flying and how to take great aerial photos and videos.
