Boys and Girls Soccer Camp Grades 3-8

Calendar Jul 9, 2018 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

For players with experience, advanced training on tactics and game situations will be provided. Each camper should have their own soccer ball, soccer cleats, sneakers, shin guards (required), labeled water bottle, snacks, and sunscreen. It is also strongly suggested that campers bring extra socks. Previous soccer experience is required.

Boys’ Black Bear Basketball Camp Grades 4-8

Calendar Jun 25, 2018 at 8 am, runs for 1 week

Campers learn the fundamental of defense including stance and positioning and develop individual offensive skills. Daily activities include individual help stations, lectures, games, and competitions. Each camper should bring a snack and labeled water bottle. Dress in athletic shorts, t-shirt or tank, and socks as well as basketball sneakers.

Coach Schmidt has been the boys’ varsity basketball coach at Maranacook HS for 16 years, leading teams to three KVAC and two state championships.

Instructors: Coach Rob Schmidt, various assistant coaches, and current MCHS players.

Brazilian Portuguese & Culture: Part Two - New!

Calendar Apr 4, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 7 weeks

The influence of Brazilian indigenous people and immigrants from Angola, Mozambique, Italy, Germany, and Japan made Brazil a diverse and rich country. You will continue the experience of learning more about Brazilian Portuguese language and an authentic Brazilian dish (fish stew with coconut milk) will be served after learning about its origin. If you want to plan a visit to Brazil there is possibility of traveling to this beautiful country in July 2018.

Instructor Bio: Born in Brazil, Mrs. Barley graduated from Universidade de Uberaba (UNIUBE) and earned her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. After her arrival in Maine in 1998, she started teaching Portuguese at UMO and SMCC. In 2012 she became a certified Spanish teacher, and is currently teaching Spanish at Maranacook Middle School.

 

Dog Obedience, Advanced

Calendar Apr 24, 2018 at 7 pm, runs for 6 weeks

This class will continue the training begun in the basic class, therefore dogs and handlers should have completed at least one Basic class prior to registering. The class will be tailored to the individual needs and temperaments of different breeds as well as to various levels of experience of the handlers and what each dog’s “job” is, whether he/she is a family pet or a dog that will be used as a comfort or therapy dog, or a working farm dog. This is not a puppy class. Please bring proof of current immunizations to the first class. 6-foot leash & nylon slip collars are recommended. Nylon slip collars are available on Amazon. No metal choke collars or prong-type (pinch) collars will be allowed. If you have questions prior to the beginning of the class, you may e-mail the instructor at: ksundqvist@yahoo.com.

On this 2 hour walk through field and woods you will learn how to add vitamin and mineral rich wild plants to your diet, treat bee stings, heal wounds, aid digestion, treat UTI’s and protect yourself from cancer.

Individual Guitar and Mandolin Lessons:

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced

Learn to flatpick, crosspick, fingerpick, play rhythm and lead in the style of traditional acoustic music. (Bluegrass, Old Time, Celtic and Folk)  Learn fiddle tunes, advanced variations, and improvisation techniques on either instrument.   Don’t play this type of music?  Come and improve your ability on the fretboard no matter what style you play. Teaching is done through one-on-one instruction, listening and playing by ear, tablature and recordings.

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Lessons Available
